Steady Increase in the Iraqi Dinar

Steady Increase in the Iraqi Dinar

Over the past year, the dinar has steadily appreciated and continues to rise.

According to the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), 1 Iraqi dinar was worth $0.000673USD on October 1st, 2006 and valued at $0.000801USD on September 30th, 2007. This means that during the 2007 fiscal year, the dinar appreciated 19.2%.

Since the end of the 2007 fiscal year, the dinar has continued to steadily increase in value, with a current worth of $0.000817USD per 1 Iraqi dinar, equivalent to a 2% rise since September 2007. If the dinar continues to appreciate at this rate, by the end of the 2008 fiscal year, the expected return for the year will be approximately 12%. This would result in a total 31.2% increase in value of the dinar over 2 years.

Below is a graph of the dinar appreciation over the 2007 fiscal year:

This appreciation can be attributed to the continuing increase in infrastructure construction projects and financial and economic support, the tightening of the monetary policy, and the modernizing of the banking and exchange system in Iraq.
